Senator Leising, a nurse by training, became manager of a their diversified farm in 1980 due to the death of her husband in a farming accident. She has also served as President of the Indiana Corn Growers. She was first elected senator in 1988 and served until 1996, then was re-elected in 2008. She serves as Chair of the Indiana Rural Caucus and is a SARL Board member
